Escaping the Matrix

The Matrix was one of the most popular and thought-provoking movies of all time. Viewers all over the world were captivated by the film's primary message: People get into deep trouble when they mistake what they perceive for reality. What most viewers do not realize is that prior to the release of this groundbreaking film, western intelligence agencies were already using the term "the Matrix" to describe today's world. This was in contrast to their work with remote viewers, who would "escape the matrix" to gather intelligence. Art truly does imitate life.

In the movie, the Matrix is an elaborate Artificial Intelligence computer simulation that's so captivating that people mistake it for reality. People perceive they are
walking about and interacting with others, but their physical bodies are actually submerged in fluid-filled pods, "plugged into" the Matrix, while their vital life force is
harnessed to power the Matrix.

After Neo (Keanu Reaves) learns the truth, with the help of Morpheus's (Lawrence Fishburne) training, he is able to overcome his misconception that the Matrix is reality. Neo rebels against the machines that create his false reality and, eventually, he escapes the limitations of the Matrix. To others, he has developed superhuman abilities, but, "in reality," he has merely recognized the truth.

Escaping the Matrix is a metaphor for the mystic path to enlightenment.

The Matrix can be defined as the world that we perceive, which includes the physical world, as well as higher planes of emotions and thoughts, which also affect us.

Within the Matrix, are countless fear-based thoughts and emotions that condition us to accept limitations. We are taught that we have little power, and what little power we do have, we are advised to delegate to authority figures and experts.

Swimming in a sea of negative thoughts, we are prompted to use our creative ability to imagine even more negative thoughts. Without introspection, the Matrix gets darker and more dense.

Anyone who blindly accepts these prevalent, negative thoughts will have his or her life path dictated by the Matrix.

But those who recognize that it is our collective thoughts and beliefs that power the Matrix will recognize the way out.

When we incarnate on earth, we temporarily forget the higher truth of who we are. Our life mission is to remember, to connect with our innermost self, so that we may transcend the Matrix.

The reality we perceive with our senses is not the true reality, but merely a small portion of reality, masquerading as the whole. But, unlike the "alternate reality" that Neo must extricate himself from, in our "reality," there is no need to rebel. Rather, our goal should be to transcend. We want to "be in this world, but not of it."

The outer world is a reflection of our inner thoughts and beliefs, whether individual or collective, which have been conditioned by our experience in the Matrix. Consequently, the Matrix is a learning environment, where we get feedback on how our thoughts manifest. Thankfully, our negative thoughts do not (typically) manifest instantaneously.
Otherwise, we would risk the spontaneous destruction of our world by thinking negative thoughts.

Clearing yourself of negative energies through daily meditation can provide a direct link to the "ultimate reality," i.e., the pure consciousness residing within each
of us.

As your negative beliefs are purified through regular contact with the "light" of your divine nature, unhealthy emotions, such as fear and anger, will naturally begin to
diminish, and you'll be free to transcend to higher states of consciousness. You will "download" more of your own true self, while simultaneously and automatically attracting others of similar vibration.

Your world will become more synchronistic. You will repel angry, fearful people, and those who stick around will become calmer and more centered. You will radiate love. By simply being in higher consciousness, you will have a greater effect on the world than the most gifted orators and political leaders.

The higher your consciousness and energy are vibrating, the faster your thoughts will manifest. When you align with your innermost self, you are aligned more closely with the Source of all creation. At the apex of your individual consciousness, you are connected with The One. You then have at your disposal the entire universe to help you manifest the highest good for all.

In actuality, we are single points of awareness in the Oneness that is Reality. What we interpret as the physical world is the projection of this awareness, which is taking place in the Mind of God. We are, as Shakespeare pointed out, merely "actors" in a divine play.

When we wake up to this knowledge, the play does not stop. We are free to act or interact, in bliss and peace, unattached to the Matrix. We have within us the power to create "heaven on earth."

In the past several newsletters, I have described various methods you can use to release fear, eliminate anger, dis- identify with your emotions, take back your power, listen to your inner master, and be yourself. The goal of all of these exercises is the same: to help you escape the Matrix.

This is the first day of a new year, 2009. Happy New Year to you all. This year I am setting my intentions to write a blog entry at least weekly, unless I have more to say some weeks and I might write more entries. I am going to be sharing with you some things I am reading in my daily meditation and study times along with my musing on these readings.

Today I read a story about someone walking into a bank with one of those long rope queues that are really like a maze. There was no one in the bank at the time so the person just ducked under and went to the front of the line.

While he was there a father came in with a little girl and they too ducked under and came into line. The child asked if she could go back and walk through the maze. The father said ok and so she did with an expression  of delight on her face.

As I read that I thought, what a lesson for us all. The adult saw the queue as an obstacle and bypassed it with impatience while the child saw it as an adventure and a chance to play. Not a problem but a blessing.

As we become like a little child as the great teacher Jesus  said, we would approach every day as a fresh opportunity to experience the good in life. The obstacles would melt away when we abandoned our adult expectations of difficulties. And we would begin to take ourselves and our experiences less seriously and maybe even find time to laugh…yes, even at ourselves.

Think on this thought: this day I greet the world with the mind of a child. I expect and experience only good and spend the day in joy and peace and play.

The late economic thinker, E.F. Schumacher once said, “Our ordinary mind always tries to persuade us that we are nothing but acorns and that out greatest happiness will be to become bigger, fatter, shinier acorns; but that is of interest only to pigs. Our faith gives us knowledge of something better: that we can become an oak tree.” I find it interesting to find this thinking coming from a person devoted to thinking about economics…but I am glad that he let himself have this thought to share with me and you. I think this is truly the message that Spirit has been giving to humanity through all the wonderful teachers we have been sent through all the millennia of time and that we receive each and every day as we allow ourselves to listen to that still small voice that speaks within each and every one of us. A friend of mine, DavidPaul Doyle sent me the following inspirational quote from that wonderful voice for Love: "When you seek this Voice within you, you think you are seeking a Voice that is much wiser than your own. Each time you hear it, it will remind you of Who You Truly Are until the day comes when you know this Voice as your own." You see my friends, You truly are that giant oak tree that only now thinks it is still the tiny acorn. Allow the voice of Spirit to show you your greatness and let your branches sway in the breeze of the wind of Spirit as you stand tall and strong when the winds of adversity blow, knowing that your roots are deep in God, as God and your branches are strong. For you really do live and move and enjoy your very being in God as God. May these musing be planted deep in the soil of your soul so they can germinate and manifest the might oak that you are in reality. Namaste and blessings!

I was reading an email I received from a friend on Sunday. In it, he wished everyone a "happy NOW year!" (www.rowrowrow.com)

I thought what a wonderful coincidence since I have been talking on the Sunday evenings of Advent on the five Reiki principles, which each begin "just for today." (I am working at this time to put these five messages in booklet form and hope to have that completed this year. Most of our life seems too often spend in guilt and anguish over the past or in worry and fear of the future. All the while this wonderful present we have been given --the present -- is squandered away and lost.

The real lose here is that it is only in "the present" that we have the opportunity to change anything. The past is already done and gone. The future has yet to be created and birthed. But the present, why that's another thing all together.

As we are present in the present moment -- fully awake and aware we are able to cooperate with God (or whatever name you wish to give to the wonderful presence that causes life to be) and become a co-creator creating whatever experience of life that you choose.
 

Every minute of the day, every mile of the way, God in me, through me, as me reveals a shining ray. I step out into this New Year, this NOW Year in confidence. I have God's light within me which casts a beam before me. Always I am in the place where I can reveal God more perfectly.

The best way I this new year to stay in the NOW moment is to make the choice to daily spend some quiet time going into the center of your being where you will always find the welcoming and loving presence of Spirit. And as you spend time communing there, you will find new light and wisdom to shine upon your path and from that place you can allow to shine forth your true God-self.
